Walk east from Mt. Hobs through the forest and between the mountains. Fabul Castle sits alone in a small desert area. 7 chests and 4 hidden items wait inside, plus the seven-round castle defense that adds 3 new bestiary entries.

Outside Fabul

Before going inside, continue east past the castle as far as you can, then walk north to find the Chocobo Forest hidden in a circular ring of trees. Grab the Gysahl Greens from the grass patch inside, and fight a Gatlinger on the overworld for the bestiary entry. Gatlinger’s Hitsting attack can petrify, and the enemy drops 4× Gold Needle, so stack a few before engaging.

Rest at the inn (100 Gil) and restock items. Buy Cecil the Demon Helm, Demon Armor, and Demon Gloves and pick up at least one elemental Claw for Yang. The full Demon set is Dark-Knight-only gear; the matching Demon Shield comes from a chest in the throne room after the defense.

Walk upstairs to 2F, quick save, then continue up to the throne room. Approach the throne to trigger a cutscene with King Fabul. When prompted, select Yes to begin the castle defense. Rosa and Rydia sit out the defense.

Castle Defense

Seven consecutive battles with no breaks. Cecil, Edward, and Yang handle all of them. The Captain flees if every Baron Warrior dies first, so target him before the Warriors.

A long cutscene plays after the final round. Rosa is taken, the Crystal of Wind is lost, and Kain is revealed to be working with Golbez.

You wake up in the Crystal Room with the castle now open to explore.

Throne Room

Return to the throne room. The northwest pot holds Hermes Shoes. On the opposite side of the room, step on the floor switch to open a secret passage. Three chests inside hold Spider’s Silk, Demon Shield, and Ether. The Demon Shield completes Cecil’s Dark Knight set.

Return to the inn on 1F and talk to the innkeeper. Select Yes to rest. The scene cuts to the East Tower, where an NPC hands Cecil the Deathbringer, a Dark-element sword.

East Tower

Open the chest on 3F for a Tent. Go downstairs to 2F and check the bottom-right pot for Bacchus’s Cider. Exit the tower.

West Tower

Enter the west tower. On 1F, check the top-left pot for Zeus’s Wrath, then open all three chests in the room: Bomb Fragment, Antarctic Wind, and Potion. That’s everything for Fabul: 7 chests and 4 hidden items.
