Mysidia & Mt. Ordeals
Cecil wakes up alone on a beach. Walk east into the nearby town. 4 chests, 1 hidden item, and 7 new bestiary entries across Mysidia and the climb up Mt. Ordeals, plus Cecil’s Paladin transformation at the summit.
Mysidia
Shops
The townspeople remember Cecil’s raid for the Water Crystal and they aren’t happy to see him. Some NPCs will troll you: the wizard in the town center casts Toad, the dancer at the inn casts Pig, and the bartender poisons your drink. Skip all three unless you enjoy the novelty.
The shops are a step up. Key buys:
- Hi-Potions (150 Gil, Items): stack 20+ for the boss fight ahead. They double as throwable damage against undead enemies
- Healing Staff (480 Gil, Weapons): casts Heal on a single ally when used as an item; equip on Tellah, Rosa, or Porom
- Flame Rod (380 Gil, Weapons): Fire-element rod that casts Fire when used as an item; equip on Palom or Tellah for the climb
- Skip the heavier armor for now: Cecil’s Dark Knight form can’t equip the Paladin shields, helms, and body slots. Come back after Mt. Ordeals
Walk north to the Manor of Prayers and speak to the Elder. Palom (Black Mage) and Porom (White Mage) join the party as twins with their own Twincast command. Restock items, then leave town.
Outside Mysidia
On the overworld, go east, then north through the woods, then east again until you spot a large forest. Cut south into the Chocobo Forest and grab the Gysahl Greens from the grass patch. Talk to the White Chocobo inside to restore the party’s MP for free, and the Fat Chocobo summoning spot on the north end stores items if your inventory gets full. Leave the forest and walk northeast to find the Mt. Ordeals entrance in the mountains.
Mt. Ordeals
New Enemies
Four chests across four sub-floors, five new bestiary entries, and the Four Fiend Scarmiglione at the summit. Stock Hi-Potions before climbing. The enemy lineup needs careful targeting:
- Ghoul, Revenant, Skullnant are Undead and weak to Fire and Holy; thrown Potions and Cure spells damage them
- Lilith is Reptile + Undead, weak to Fire; same curative-damage trick works
- Soul is a Spirit (not Undead). It absorbs Fire (Fire heals it). Use physicals or Holy attacks instead
Entrance
Walk northeast to find a column of fire blocking the path. Palom steps forward and melts it with magic, then another cutscene plays. Once you regain control, go northwest past the stairs and open the chest for a Potion. Climb upstairs and grab a second Potion from the chest directly above. Continue up and through the door.
Ridge
Follow the linear path north. Just before the next door, Sage Tellah rejoins the party. Go through the door.
Pass
Walk west and up the stairs to find an Ether. Return to the entrance and walk north up two sets of stairs, then west. Open the chest below the north door for another Ether. That’s all 4 chests. Go through the door to the summit.
Summit
At the split, take the east path first to reach a save point. Use a Tent, save, and heal everyone to full. Then take the north path and approach the bridge to start the boss fight.
How to Beat Scarmiglione
Scarmiglione is the first of the Four Fiends and fights you twice in a row. The first round flanks him with three Skullnants (200 HP undead); the second round he returns alone in his undead form.
Heal up and quick save after the first fight. Cross the bridge to trigger the second fight immediately. Scarmiglione now attacks from behind, so flip your party formation if you want your mages in front.
The Hall of Mirrors
Quick save after the second fight. Interact with the glowing tablet between the gravestones. Cecil is pulled into the Hall of Mirrors for a forced battle against his Dark Knight self. You can’t damage him. Keep yourself alive with Cure and items, and Defend until the dialogue ends. Cecil transforms into a Paladin.
Cecil also gains the Cover command (intercept attacks aimed at low-HP allies) and White Magic access. He learns Cura at Lv 15.
Back to Mysidia
Make your way back down the mountain. Fight everything to give Cecil levels; Lilith spawns more often during the descent if you still need her bestiary entry.
Back on the overworld, walk west to Mysidia. The townspeople have warmed up to Cecil now that he’s a Paladin. Visit the armor shop and buy the Paladin gear you skipped earlier: Light Shield (700 Gil), Light Helm (4,000 Gil), Knight’s Armor (8,000 Gil), and Gauntlets (3,000 Gil). Sell your old Dark Knight equipment to help cover the cost.
Visit the Elder in the Manor of Prayers. After the cutscene, the building east of his house unlocks. Step on the warp pad inside. The Devil’s Road teleports you straight back to Baron.
