Trophy Guide - Final Fantasy 2

Final Fantasy 2 Pixel Remaster has 28 trophies and 7 are missable. The Dreadnought, Cyclone, and Castle Palamecia each become permanently inaccessible after their boss fights, so all chests and bestiary entries inside have to be cleared in one visit. Memory Lane also requires learning every Key Term the moment it becomes available; skip one and you can’t recover it. The missables guide lists every cutoff in one place.

Roadmap

Follow the walkthrough end to end and sweep every missable as it appears. The seven missable trophies cluster around the four one-time dungeons and the 15 Key Terms:

  • Memory Lane: learn every Key Term in window; most expire as the story moves on.
  • Legendary Treasure Hunter: sweep every chest in Dreadnought (10), Leviathan (5), Cyclone (7), and Castle Palamecia (17).
  • Field Research - Professional: register the 16 missable bestiary entries across those dungeons and the pre-Cyclone overworld.
  • Adventurous Wayfarer: visit Gatrea, Rebel Camp, and Chocobo Forest before they slip past.

After the credits, Weapon / Magic Tactics caps at level 16 (Magic’s final cast must happen in battle), Legendary Warrior at 500 kills, and Moneybags at 100,000 lifetime gil. If Iron Giant didn’t register during Pandaemonium, return to 5F, 7F, or 8F at a 1.6% spawn.

Story Trophies

Story trophies pop as you progress. None are missable; you’ll earn each one by beating the matching boss. See the walkthrough for the full route.

Progress Trophies

Five of the seven Gold trophies. Sword of Myth and Memory Lane both depend on asking the right NPC in a narrow story window; Weapon and Magic Tactics need grinding; Adventurous Wayfarer is the easiest to miss. The remaining two Golds (Field Research - Professional, Legendary Treasure Hunter) are covered in their own sections below.

Sword of Myth
Sword of Myth
Obtained Excalibur.
Missable. Ask Gordon in the Altair throne room about the Dragoons key term after the Dreadnought, then sail to Castle Deist and speak with the Dragoon's wife to receive Excalibur. The window closes after you complete Deist Cavern.
Memory Lane
Memory Lane
Learned all 15 keywords.
Missable. Learn every Key Term the moment it appears in dialogue. See the Key Terms page for the full list and timing.
Adventurous Wayfarer
Adventurous Wayfarer
Visited every location.
Missable. Visit all 27 locations. The Rebel Camp before Castle Fynn is the easiest one to miss; the trophy fires when you enter the 27th.
Weapon Tactics
Weapon Tactics
Raised any weapon proficiency to level 16.
Pick one weapon type per character and stick with it. See the leveling page for proficiency mechanics; dual-wielding does NOT double gains in PR.
Magic Tactics
Magic Tactics
Raised any spell to level 16.
Cast any spell repeatedly. The final level-up must happen in battle, not from the menu. Cure is the easiest grind: cast it on yourself in low-stakes fights.

Combat Trophies

Kill counts are cumulative. Don’t flee from fights and you’ll hit 500 before the endgame. Otherwise grind in Pandaemonium where encounters are dense.

Apprentice Warrior
Apprentice Warrior
Defeated 100 monsters.
Comes naturally through the walkthrough.
Experienced Warrior
Experienced Warrior
Defeated 300 monsters.
Comes naturally through the walkthrough.
Legendary Warrior
Legendary Warrior
Defeated 500 monsters.
Light grinding may be needed at endgame. Pandaemonium gives ~20 fights per cleared floor.

Bestiary Trophies

128 enemies total. Check progress under Config → Bestiary. 16 enemies are missable; they only appear in temporary dungeons or on the pre-Cyclone overworld, which swaps to a different roster after the Cyclone event. See the bestiary for the full missable list.

The rare hunt is Iron Giant (#124) on Pandaemonium 5F / 7F / 8F at 1.6% per encounter. Expect 60-100 battles before it shows up.

The thresholds are 10%, 50%, and 100% of the bestiary: roughly 12-13 entries, 64 entries, and all 128. Field Research - Basic pops within the first one or two chapters.

Field Research - Basic
Field Research - Basic
Encountered 10% of the bestiary (around 12-13 enemy types).
Pops within the first chapter or two; comes naturally.
Field Research - Advanced
Field Research - Advanced
Encountered 50% of the bestiary (64 enemy types).
Missable. Most enemies appear naturally during the walkthrough; the 16 truly missable ones live in the four temporary dungeons (Dreadnought, Leviathan, Cyclone, Castle Palamecia) and on the pre-Cyclone overworld.
Field Research - Professional
Field Research - Professional
Encountered all 128 enemy types.
Missable. All 128 entries including Iron Giant (1.6% rare on Pandaemonium 5F/7F/8F). Verify in Config → Bestiary before entering the Cyclone; the pre-Cyclone overworld enemies stop spawning after.

Treasure Trophies

234 chests total, with four temporary dungeons that lock their chests permanently. Open every chest in the Dreadnought (10), Leviathan (5), Cyclone (7), and Castle Palamecia (17) before story progression seals them. The thresholds are 23, 117, and 234 chests; Veteran and Legendary need the late-game missable chests in all four temp dungeons.

Rookie Treasure Hunter
Rookie Treasure Hunter
Opened 23 treasure chests.
Pops mid-Bafsk or Snow Cavern; comes naturally.
Veteran Treasure Hunter
Veteran Treasure Hunter
Opened 117 chests (50% of the total).
Missable. Pops mid-game if you're following the walkthrough chest tables.
Legendary Treasure Hunter
Legendary Treasure Hunter
Opened all 234 chests.
Missable. The Dreadnought (10), Leviathan (5), Cyclone (7), and Castle Palamecia (17) chests must all be cleared in their single visits. They're sealed permanently after the story progresses.
