Castle Fynn

7 New Enemies 27 Chests 4 Keywords

Castle Fynn is occupied by the Empire. Time to take it back, then dig down for the White Mask. This chapter covers Castle Fynn’s upper floors and the underground for 27 chests, 7 new bestiary entries, and 4 new keywords.

Leila Rejoins

As you enter the Castle, Leila will be blocking the stairs. Speak with her and she rejoins as your fourth party member. Equip her with your best spare weapons and armor before pushing forward.

Leila rejoins at Castle Fynn.

You’ll see treasure chests in the first area, but ignore them for now. Walk straight up and through the entrance, then climb the stairs north and keep pushing through the upper floors until you reach the throne room.

Four New Key Terms

With Gottos down, talk to Hilda in the throne room. She mentions Mysidia; learn it and ask her about it. She then mentions Masks, so learn that and ask her about it too. She gives you one more: Ekmet Teloess, a Key Term whose use Hilda doesn’t reveal.

Speak with Gordon next and ask him about Mysidia. He teaches you Ultima Tome, the signature endgame spell. Learn it and ask him about it for context. That’s 4 new Key Terms; Paul knows where Ekmet Teloess goes, so go to his house in Fynn town.

Fynn Town

With the castle liberated, Fynn town is yours again. The shops are open; hold off on buying anything heavy though, since better gear is available once you reach Mysidia.

Stop at Paul’s house next and ask him about Ekmet Teloess. He replies: “Look in the far corner of the audience chamber, to the right of the throne.” The chests inside his house are locked until the Cyclone chapter (Paul will open the room when you ask him about the Cyclone keyword), so return to the castle.

Upper Castle Chests

Make your way back to 1F. Ten chests sit across the upper floors and some are behind hidden wall passages.

Captains (750 HP) are the toughest random encounter on the upper floors; they hit 6 times per turn, so focus fire and end them quickly. Wizards spawn at around 10% on 2F and 3F, so this is a decent place to log one if you missed them in the Coliseum. Sorcerers show up in one of the 2F monster chests and cast high-level Black Magic.

1F (3 chests). From the entrance, go up and left through an opening. Follow the path up at the first gap for the 1,000 Gil chest. Return to the middle, take the right opening, then go up and left at the fork. Two more chests are along that path: 2,000 Gil and another 1,000 Gil. Walk back to the leftmost side of the floor and take the path south to the stairs. You’ll pass 2F on the way up to 3F.

3F (3 chests). Go all the way to the right and straight up. The room contains three Tome chests: Break Tome, Death Tome, and Toad Tome. Each spell is high-level black magic that’s worth teaching to whoever’s running offensive casts. Walk back down to 1F and this time take the centre stairs up to 2F.

2F (4 chests). Two monster chests live on this floor, one in each wing. Go left through the opening and into the room above. The Aura Tome chest sits there, ambushed by 4 Sergeants and 3 Sorcerers. Below that room there’s a hidden gap in the wall.

Walk through the gap and push up to the top-left corner for the Werebuster, a staff that hits Were-type enemies hard. Return to the middle and take the right opening. The Potion chest in the room above is the second monster chest, ambushed by 1 Stunner, 2 Ghasts, 2 Revenants, and 3 Wraiths. Cast Fire on the group; the undead all share the weakness. In the top-right corner of that room is another hidden wall gap.

Castle Underground

Return to the throne room. In the top-right corner, use Ekmet Teloess to open the secret door.

Go through and down three sets of stairs; you end up back on 1F in the top-right area. From there, walk through a hidden wall gap to get outside the castle. Stay near the walls; stray too far and you drop onto the world map.

Follow the outer wall down and through another hidden gap to slip back inside. The door in the bottom-right section opens into a room with three chests: Golden Armor, Gold Cuirass, and Golden Shield. All three are solid mid-game upgrades. Stick them on Firion or Guy.

Loop back to where you came through the first hidden gap and take the stairs down. Five floors of undead await, with another two monster chests and the White Mask at the bottom.

Killer Mantis (750 HP, weak Ice) is the toughest random encounter down here, hitting 5 times per turn and showing up at 96% on B3. Brain (240 HP, weak Stone) is the headline B2 spawn at 67% and casts Fog (Amnesia) plus Swap, which exchanges its HP with a party member. Changer (140 HP, weak Stone) covers most of B2 alongside Brain and also casts Swap. Wraiths, Specters, Revenants, and Ghasts fill the corridors; Fire is effective against the lot since they’re all undead.

B1 (3 chests). Take the path down and to the right for the Knife chest. Backtrack and turn left; you’ll hit a wall, so go around it for Eye Drops. From there, continue right and down through the opening for Clothes, then take the stairs down.

B2 (3 chests). Loop around either side of the room. The Ether chest is in the bottom-right corner. From there, go all the way left and down for the Potion chest. Loop back up, and at the path split take the left fork for Maiden’s Kiss at the top. Return to the split, go right, and follow the path to the stairs.

B3 (3 chests). Go right, then straight down to the bottom-right corner for Hi-Potion. Ignore the door nearby; it’s a dead end. Backtrack up and left, then follow the path down to the Flame Shield chest. The other door on this floor is also a dead end, so skip it. Top-left has Spider Silk. Stairs to B4 are just below.

B4 (3 chests). Follow the path up. The Power Staff chest sits in the north-middle area and is the third monster chest of the chapter, ambushed by 2 Ghasts, 1 Revenant, 3 Wraiths, and 2 Specters. Cast Fire to clear the room. Walk back down and follow the path until it splits. Go up and all the way right for Flame Armor in the top-right corner. Return to the split, take the right/down path to Betrayal Fang mid-right, and the stairs down are directly below it.

B5 (2 chests). Turn right and walk up at the third opening. When the path splits, take the left route for the Orichalcum chest. This is the final monster chest of the chapter, 4 Rhyos at 750 HP each.

How to Beat the Rhyos Pack

Orichalcum - Castle Fynn B5, left route. Rhyos x4 ambush (109/234).

Keep going up and right after the Rhyos fight. You’ll see six doors. Take the fifth from the left.

White Mask - Castle Fynn B5, fifth door from left (110/234).

The White Mask is yours. You’ll need it in Mysidia. Step on the purple teleport pad past the chest to warp out of the underground.

The next chapter sails south to Mysidia. Stop by Fynn town first if you skipped the shops earlier, and make sure your healing magic is well-leveled before pushing on.
