Mysidia
With the White Mask in hand, you sail south to Mysidia, the town of mages. This chapter covers the overworld approach, Mysidia town, and the goddess statue underground.
Sailing to Mysidia
Heal up in Fynn if you need to. Return to your ship and sail southwest. Mysidia sits on the continent in the lower-left corner of the world map. Dock on the northern coast and walk south through forests and marshland; the path curves southeast along the mountains until you reach the town gate.
Mysidia Overworld Encounters
The encounter rate is high on this stretch; expect 5-6 fights between the coast and town, so save frequently. You’ll run into a lot of new enemies, but they all reappear in upcoming dungeons at higher rates so we’re not tracking them here; the dungeon chapters list each one’s most reliable floor since dungeon farming beats overworld farming.
A few quick warnings for the fights you can’t avoid: Cockatrices can petrify with their Beak attack, so keep Gold Needles ready. Bombs self-destruct at low HP and hit the whole party; finish them fast. Black Flans and Red Mousses have very high physical defense, so use Fire and Lightning respectively.
Mysidia Town
Shops
Rest at the inn first. Mysidia is the home of mages, and the shops reflect that. The magic counter alone stocks 20 different tomes including the strongest white magic spell in the game.
A few buying tips on top of Holy:
- Ice Bow (5,000 Gil) is the best back-row pickup for Maria or Leila.
- Life Tome (1,000), Esuna Tome (600), and Barrier Tome (5,000) round out the white-magic essentials if you don’t have them already.
- Teleport Tome (1,000) saves walking time out of dungeons.
- Knight’s Armor and Ice Shield sell here for 5,000 Gil each. Ice Shield in particular is the only buyable copy if you missed the Dreadnought chest.
Placing the White Mask
Visit the bookcase in the bottom-left house and ask the scholar about Mask and Ultima Tome for context on the two-mask seal. The lore fills in why the masks matter.
Walk to the pond in the centre of town and take the stairs down. Follow the path left to the goddess statue on the platform.
Use the White Mask on the statue. It locks into place and the first half of the seal is undone. The Black Mask is on the Tropical Island next, so go back up and leave town.
The next chapter covers the Tropical Island. The dungeon is packed with undead, so level Holy a few times on the overworld before you go in. Stock Ethers and Antidotes; the encounters there burn through MP fast.
