Tropical Island

5 New Enemies 20 Chests

With the White Mask placed, the Black Mask sits at the bottom of the Tropical Island. This chapter covers the 5-floor dungeon for 20 chests and 5 new bestiary entries.

Sailing to Tropical Island

Return to your ship near Mysidia and sail south. The Tropical Island is a tiny speck near the bottom of the world map; easy to miss on the first pass.

Tropical Island

The dungeon loops up and down across five basement floors in a confusing layout, and Poison is constant; almost every fight inflicts it.

Poison Toads (300 HP, weak Ice) are the biggest nuisance. They inflict both Poison and Toad status; Toad disables a party member until cured with Maiden’s Kiss or Esuna Lv5+. Level Esuna before coming here if you haven’t already. Yellow Jellies (45 HP, weak Fire and Ice) have such high defense that physicals do nothing, so cast magic on them. Red Mousses (100 HP, weak Lightning) sit alongside Yellow Jellies and also need magic. Wild Horns (300 HP) show up from B3 onward and also appear in one of the monster chests.

B1. Walk straight down from the entrance for the Eye Drops chest. Go back north through the narrow passageway to find a Hi-Potion at the end. On your way south there’s an opening on the left with another Hi-Potion. Continue left and down for the Ether, then loop to the bottom-left corner for the Spider Silk. Take the northern passageway to the stairs.

B2. Skip the chest directly ahead; you’ll grab it on the way back. Go left and descend to B3 where another Spider Silk sits near the stairs.

Spider Silk - Tropical Island B3, near stairs (116/234).

Continue through B4 until you reach 1F, a tropical settlement with masked villagers. Two merchants sell weapons here; nothing you can’t find cheaper in Mysidia. Return to B2.

The Masked Village.

B2 (return). The skipped chest is Sleep Grass. Go right for the Scourge Tome, then south to the bottom-right corner for the Blind Tome. Push left for another Scourge Tome and another Blind Tome; the tomes aren’t worth learning but sell for decent Gil. Continue north to B3.

B3. Garlic is south of the entrance. Continue past it; the dead end to the north has the Phoenix Down chest, which is the first monster chest of the dungeon. 2 Ghouls, 2 Ghasts, 2 Shadows, and 2 Wraiths ambush it. Cast Fire on the group; the undead all share the weakness.

B5 corridor. Drop to B4 and take the top-left stairs to B5. A short corridor holds three chests: Sleep Grass, Gaia Drum, and another Sleep Grass. The Gaia Drum chest is the second monster chest, ambushed by 2 Wild Horns and 2 Poison Toads. Then take the side route to a small room with the Death Idol.

Return to B4 and grab the 1,000 Gil chest on the northern path. Take the right stairs to B5 for the Sleep Tome, then go left into the boss room.

How to Beat 4× Big Horn

Open the final chest for the Black Mask, then step on the purple floor pad behind it to teleport out instantly.

Black Mask - Tropical Island boss room (130/234).

The next chapter returns to Mysidia to place the Black Mask, then into the Cave of Mysidia just north of town. Bring Ethers and make sure your healing magic is well-leveled.
