Lost Sanctum

The Lost Sanctum is a fetch quest marathon spanning two time periods. You'll help a village of friendly Reptites (yes, they survived Lavos) by traveling between 65,000,000 B.C. and 600 A.D. Changes in the past affect the future. Complete everything to unlock a Nu vendor selling Megalixirs and some of the best armor in the game.

Overview

Access. You need the Epoch with wings. Two gates appear: one in 65,000,000 B.C. near the Sun Shrine, another in 600 A.D. north of where Ozzie's Fort was. Start in 65,000,000 B.C.; the 600 A.D. version is overrun with monsters until you clear the prehistoric one first.

Recommended level. Around 45-50 handles the content comfortably. Bring Ayla for Charm opportunities on Wonder Rocks. The bosses aren't too bad if you've done a few sidequests already.

  • Time Periods: 65,000,000 B.C., 600 A.D.
  • Bosses: Goldhammer, Nu Guardian, Nu Master, Archeofangs, Master-at-Arms
  • Key Rewards: Icewyrm (Crono), Dragon Arm (Robo), Judgment Scythe (Magus), Elemental Aegis, Champion's Badge

The Quests

Clearing Millennia Wood (65M B.C.). Enter through the gate and head south to the village. It's empty at first. Climb the ladders northeast to reach Millennia Wood. Clear all the monsters you find; check the bottom screen map for hidden areas. Grab chests along the way: Hi-Potion, 20,000 G, Hi-Ether, Elixir, Athenian Water. Note the tiny sapling near the end; you'll need it later. Return to the village. The Reptites emerge and give you the Dragon's Tear accessory.

Golden Hammer quest. Talk to the Reptite in the southwest corner. He needs a special hammer. Head south to the Great Southern Swamp. Chests here: Hi-Potion, 8,000 G, Shelter, Turbo Ether, Mid-Potion, Athenian Water. Find the sparkling object in the southwest corner (right of some frogs) to get the Golden Sand. Return to Millennia Wood and sprinkle the sand on the sapling. Now head to 600 A.D.

Clearing Millennia Wood (600 A.D.). Enter through the 600 A.D. gate and go to the village. The Reptites ask you to clear the forest again. Fight through similar enemies. New chests: Shelter, 25,000 G, Turbo Ether, Megalixir, Dragonhead. At the tree's location, an Ogan has chopped it down. Chase the thief through the forest until you corner it. Beat the Goldhammer boss. Return to the village for a Megalixir from the Elder.

Returning the Hammer. Go back to 65,000,000 B.C. and give the hammer to the southwest Reptite. Reward: 100,000 G. That's a lot of gold for one fetch quest.

Prismastone quest. Talk to the Reptite in the northwest. Her daughter is sick and needs a Prismastone from Mount Emerald. Go through the swamp and head southeast to reach the mountain. A blue Nu blocks the path; this is the Nu Guardian boss. Beat it and continue climbing. Chests on the mountain: 10,000 G, Shelter, Elixir, Aeonian Helm, Hi-Potion, Aeonian Suit. Grab the Prismastone at the summit. Return it to the Reptite for the Capsule Set (2 each of Strength, Magic, and Speed Capsules).

The Shrine and Saintstone. Talk to the Reptite near the first ladder. Show the Prismastone and place it on an altar in the shrine above. Go to 600 A.D. The Elder won't let you in the shrine until you retrieve a Reptmark from the northwest corner of Millennia Wood. Get it, enter the shrine, and take the future Prismastone. Return to 65,000,000 B.C., place both Prismastones together, and they fuse into the Saintstone. You also get the Dragon Arm (Robo weapon).

Lonely Soul quest. In 600 A.D., talk to the Reptite in the southwest. The Nu has been waiting 65 million years for a strong challenger. Head through the Southern Glade (which replaced the swamp). Chests: 50,000 G, Lapis, Elixir, Athenian Water, Shelter. At Mount Emerald, you'll find the ladder is broken. Go back to the village, talk to the southeast Reptite about vines, then grab the Sturdy Vines from the Southern Glade's northeast corner.

Return to 65,000,000 B.C. and climb Mount Emerald's east side. Construct the ladder at the top. Go back to 600 A.D. The ladder now works. Climb up and grab chests: Athenian Water, Rainbow Helm, Turbo Ether, Mermaid Helm. Fight the Nu Master at the summit. It falls asleep on the bridge. Return to the village for Nova Armor.

Bridgebuilder quest. Talk to the northeast Reptite in 600 A.D. He needs lumber, metal, and a hammer. For the Steel Ingot, enter the Winding Passage from the Southern Glade's northwest and check the hidden alcove. Warp to 65,000,000 B.C., borrow the Golden Hammer from the southwest Reptite, and talk to the Reptite in Millennia Wood for Godwood. Return everything to 600 A.D. for a Haste Helm.

Waystone and Cave Conspiracy. In 65,000,000 B.C., talk to the Reptite near the shrine ladders. Take the Saintstone to Mount Emerald's summit. Go to 600 A.D. and collect the Waystone that formed over 65 million years. Back in 65,000,000 B.C., talk to the southeast Reptite about a dark cave. The Winding Passage has more chests: Shelter, Reptite Tiara, Megalixir.

The Waystone lights up the Lightless Cave. Enter the Primeval Fortress. After encountering Twin Snakes, you'll automatically return to warn the Reptites. They give you the Judgment Scythe (Magus weapon). Go back to the fortress. Chests throughout: 20,000 G (x2), Shelter, Athenian Water, Turboshot (Lucca), Megalixir, Dragon Armor, Stardust Bow, Reptite Dress. Beat the Archeofangs boss at the end. Return for the Valor Crest.

The Bridge and the Tower. In 600 A.D., check on the bridge builder at Mount Emerald. The Nu Master lets you pass. Help the Reptite hanging from the bridge; bring the Nu to assist. The Nu gets hungry. Get a Hearty Lunch from the southwest Reptite. Then it wants old-timey food. Go to 65,000,000 B.C. and farm Kingfrogs in the Southern Glade's northeast until you get a Sweet Banana. Other food won't work; it has to be the banana. Return to 600 A.D., feed the Nu, and receive Saurian Leathers.

Tower of Heavenly Idols. Cross the completed Great Bridge (fight enemies along the way) and enter the tower. Work your way up; chests include 50,000 G, Dinoblade, and Rusted Blade. At the top, defeat Master-at-Arms and his Bladesman. Statues of your party appear in the northeast room. Return to the village for the Champion's Badge.
