The Millennial Fair

The game opens with a sweeping view of the kingdom; ocean waves crash against the coastline as the Millennial Fair bursts with activity in the distance. Crono's mother wakes him to the sound of Leene's Bell - it's time to head to the fair.

Truce Village

Head downstairs and talk to your mother; she gives you 200G as your allowance. You can play with the curtains or check out the cat, but when you're ready, exit south through the front door.

Mayor's Manor. Before heading to the fair, visit the Mayor's Manor in the southwest part of Truce. Open the chest downstairs for a Potion, then head upstairs and grab 100G from the chest there. Talk to the man standing by the upstairs chest twice and he'll give you an extra 300G. The people here also explain game mechanics if you're new.

Porre (optional). You can head south to explore Porre village or take a boat ride between the two towns. In Porre's Mayor's Manor, there's a Shelter in the upstairs chest. Talk to the Porre Mayor and follow his instructions to receive 10G - you can repeat this as many times as you'd like.

Guardia Forest (optional). You can also visit Guardia Forest to the north, though you can't enter the castle yet. There's a Strength Capsule hidden here: from the entrance go north, east at the fork, south at the second fork, but hug the top line of trees to avoid enemies. If you want a shot at a secret later, avoid fighting monsters here since you'll need to stay at a low level.

The Millennial Fair

Head north from Crono's house to enter Leene Square. The Millennial Fair celebrates 1000 years since the founding of the Kingdom of Guardia; there are shops, mini-games, and plenty to explore.

Shops. The merchants in the first area sell equipment upgrades. Melchior offers the Bronze Blade (350G) which is a solid upgrade for Crono. The equipment tent has the Padded Vest (300G) and Bronze Helm (200G). The item tent sells Potions (10G), Panaceas (10G), Athenian Water (200G), and Shelters (150G). Buy what you can afford and sell Crono's old gear.

Silver Points. Mini-games around the fair award Silver Points (SP) that you can trade for prizes. The bell in the southwest awards 1 SP if you hit it squarely - wait until Crono's farthest from the bell before pressing A. The soda guzzling contest to the east gives 5 SP; mash A to drink faster than your opponent. You can bet on the footrace for 20 SP if your runner wins - talk to the old guy below the track for tips, and you can even slow down other racers by talking to them mid-race.

Gato

HP 76
Location Leene Square (west side)

Gato is a singing robot who challenges you to a fight. He's entirely optional but awards 15 Silver Points per win - plus good early experience and Tech points.

  • Use regular attacks; Gato doesn't hit very hard
  • You can fight him multiple times for more SP
  • Eating the old man's lunch nearby restores HP if needed
Rewards: 10 Exp 1 TP

Bekkler's Lab. The large tent on the right side of the fair entrance houses Norstein Bekkler's Lab, where you spend Silver Points on prizes. For 10 SP you can win a Poyozo Doll that appears in your home and plays your character's theme. For 40 SP you get a Doppel Doll clone with changeable poses. For 80 SP you win a Cat; winning again at 80 SP gives Cat Food that lets you breed up to 11 cats at home.

Meeting Marle

Head to Leene Square (one zone north of the fair entrance) and bump into the blonde girl running around. You'll both get knocked down; she helps you up. Talk to her, then pick up the pendant she dropped and return it. She introduces herself as Marle and asks to walk around with you - she joins your party.

With Marle, you can continue exploring. Talk to Melchior and when he asks if she'd sell the pendant, decline. Return the cat to the little girl if you haven't already. When Marle stops at the candy booth in the northern area, stand still and wait - don't try to drag her away. You can also introduce Marle to Crono's mom or take her to Guardia Forest to grind some levels if you want her to learn her first Tech early.

Lucca's Teleporter

Eventually you'll hear that Lucca's invention is ready. If the path north is blocked, talk to the woman by the fountain near the fair entrance - she'll mention that the demonstration is starting. Head to the north end of Leene Square where Lucca and her father Taban have set up a teleportation device.

Talk to Lucca by the left pod; she asks you to demonstrate. Step onto the left telepod and the machine warps you to the right one - success. The crowd is impressed.

Talk to Marle and she rushes to try it herself. But when she steps on, her pendant reacts strangely with the machine. A blue portal tears open and Marle gets sucked in, dropping her pendant as she vanishes.

Pick up the pendant Marle left behind. Lucca says you need to go after her; step onto the telepod to follow through the time gate. You arrive in Truce Canyon - but it's not the same era you left.
