We're Back!
The Gate deposits you back at the Millennial Fair in 1000 A.D., right where you left off. Lucca asks you to escort Marle back to the castle, then runs off to work on something. It's time to head home - but your actions are about to catch up with you.
Back at the Fair
You can buy weapons and armor while you're here, but it isn't necessary; you'll find a Lode Sword soon anyway. You can also step back through the gate to 600 A.D. if you want, though everything there remains the same as you left it.
Last chance. This is your final opportunity to affect the outcome of Crono's upcoming trial. If you haven't done so already, return the little girl's cat, avoid eating the old man's lunch, and don't try to sell Marle's pendant to Melchior. See the Millennial Fair chapter for a full list of actions that matter.
Power Tab. When you're ready, head to Guardia Forest. Search the bottom right area for a Power Tab if you didn't grab it before your journey to the past. This is your fourth one so far.
Guardia Castle
Escort Marle through the forest to Guardia Castle. When you arrive, the Chancellor has soldiers drag Crono away. The scene shifts to a stained glass window and a large hall filled with spectators - it's time for Crono's trial.
The Trial
The Chancellor prosecutes Crono for kidnapping Princess Nadia. Seven jurors vote based on your actions at the Millennial Fair and your answers during the trial itself. The more innocent votes you get, the better your reward.
How each juror votes:
- 1st Juror: Guilty if you say the fortune tempted you (even "a little bit") or tried to sell the pendant
- 2nd Juror: Guilty if you talked to the girl and didn't return her cat. Not Guilty if you never talked to her, or returned the cat before speaking to her
- 3rd Juror: Guilty if you dragged Marle away from the candy booth (triggering the "kidnapper" line)
- 4th Juror: Guilty if you admit the fortune tempted you, or if you picked up the pendant before talking to Marle
- 5th Juror: Guilty if you admit the fortune tempted you
- 6th Juror: Guilty if you stole the old man's lunch
- 7th Juror: Guilty if you lied at any point - claiming Marle started it, or denying theft when you actually stole something
Trial Results
Regardless of the verdict, Crono still gets sent to prison. However, the number of innocent votes determines what gift awaits you in your cell:
| Innocent Votes | Reward |
|---|---|
| 4 (bare majority) | 1 Ether |
| 5 | 2 Ethers |
| 6 | 3 Ethers |
| 7 (all innocent) | 6 Ethers |
The Chancellor sentences Crono to death regardless of the outcome; you're thrown in the prison tower to await execution. The next chapter begins your escape.
