Beyond the Ruins

Thrown from the Gate, you appear in a bleak, mechanical room. This is Bangor Dome; there's nothing here except a sealed door in the north. Exit and head south across the desolate overworld to Trann Dome.

Trann Dome

Inside Trann Dome, buy equipment from the merchant: a Pocket Blaster for Lucca, plus Iron Suits and Iron Helms for all three party members. This costs about 5100G - nearly all your money. Spend any remaining gold on Potions to replace what you used against the Dragon Tank.

Use the Enertron on the far left side to heal yourself. Enertrons restore HP and MP completely but leave you hungry; they're the only healing option in 2300 A.D. since no inns exist. Exit and head north through Lab 16.

Lab 16

This ruined highway connects Trann Dome to Arris Dome. Rats scurry around and steal Potions and money if they touch you, so avoid them when possible.

Head right and grab the Berserker Ring from the first chest. Continue along the path; collect the Silver Bow for Marle and a Silver Sword for Crono (if you don't already have one from the prison). Grab the Ether from another chest along the way.

In the next area, Shadows emerge from a wrecked car. These enemies are immune to physical attacks - only magic and elemental Techs work. Use Lucca's Flame Toss and Crono's Slash; Fire Whirl is very effective against groups of them. Fight through the Mutants and exit to the overworld near Arris Dome.

Arris Dome

Talk to the survivors inside to learn about the bleak state of the future. A merchant sells items if you need to restock. Use the Enertron, save your game, then head down the ladder to the basement.

Basement exploration. In the lower level, climb the left ladder and follow the girders in an S-pattern. Examine the rat; it warns you a boss fight is ahead. Head north to the Guardian room - an alarm sounds as you approach the door. Don't open the menu in this room, or four robots will attack when you close it. Approach the northern door to trigger the boss.

The Guardian has two Bit helpers (called Pods in the DS version). Bits attack periodically, and if you attack the Guardian while Bits are alive, they counter with Delta Attack (both alive) or AmpliFire (one alive).

  • Kill both Bits first, one at a time
  • Once Bits are gone, attack the Guardian before it counts down to revive them
  • Use Aura Whirl (Crono + Marle) to heal during the countdown
  • Hit the Guardian with your strongest attacks while the Bits are gone
  • Repeat until the Guardian falls
Rewards: 300 Exp 5 TP 1000 Gil

A New Hope. Enter the storage room through the north door. A cutscene plays; you'll receive a Seed. Examine the corpse for a clue about the rat, then grab the Mid-Ether from the chest.

Return to the girders and catch the rat - it runs fast, so use dash. When caught, it gives you a password: L+R+A. Go back to the basement entrance and face the right console (the sparkling one). Press L+R+A to activate a bridge. Enter the door on the right.

Fight or sneak through this room, grabbing the Mid-Ether along the way. Enter the data center at the end. Lucca discovers that the nearest Gate is at Proto Dome to the east. Then you watch a recording: 1999 A.D., the Day of Lavos. A giant creature called Lavos erupts from the earth and destroys civilization. This is why the future is ruined. Your party vows to change the past and stop Lavos.

Return to the main dome. Give the Seed to Doan; he thanks you and gives you the Bike Key for crossing Lab 32.

Sewer Access (Optional)

The Sewer Access connects Lab 16 to Death Peak (not accessible yet) and contains good rewards. If you're keeping levels low for the Spekkio secret, skip this and head straight to Lab 32.

Navigating the sewers. Climb down and a guard flies off to alert Krawlie. Go right and fight enemies for a chest with 600G, then head left. Two frogs mention a disappearing bridge - remember this. Go downstairs and find a diary warning not to make noise. Don't touch objects on the path, including the fake save point near the stairs.

Go left past the enemies into a narrow path. Hit the switch to open the door to your right, then loop around through the door. The frogs talk about a switch they can't reach. Continue to a chest with the Rage Band accessory. Head right to fight the mini-boss.

Sir Krawlie

Krawlie uses Doublehand Slap and a devastating HP Shaver attack that reduces one character's HP to 1.

  • An easy fight at any level
  • Use Marle's Aura or Aura Whirl to recover from HP Shaver
  • MP can be refilled at the Enertron after the fight
  • Charm him for a Mid-Ether
Rewards: 100 Exp 5 TP 500 Gil

After the fight, go down left past the exit to find a chest with the Thunder Blade. Hit the switch to create a shortcut. The exit leads to Death Peak, which isn't accessible yet; instead, return to the entrance and head to Lab 32.

Lab 32

This small area has a Mid-Potion in a chest near the entrance and a Jetbike at the end. Try to use the bike and its alarm triggers four robots - but Johnny intervenes and challenges you to a race instead.

Jetbike race. You have three boosts; save them for the final stretch. You just need to be ahead of Johnny at the finish line. If you score 1500 or higher, you'll win a Power Tab. Losing lets you retry or walk through the highway on foot (more enemy fights).

The Race Log item lets you record your best times and compete for prizes. Talk to Johnny with it in your inventory; he'll call Rx-xR, a robot that tracks your records and lets you change race modes.

Proto Dome

After crossing Lab 32, head south to Proto Dome. Fight the Exterminators that attack, then use the Enertron to heal. Go southeast and down the stairs to find a deactivated robot.

Lucca examines it and offers to repair it. The robot activates and introduces himself; name him Robo (default). He explains the door ahead is locked, but he can travel through the Factory to the north and turn on power from the other side. Robo joins your party.

Someone must stay behind to open the door once power's restored. The next chapter covers the Factory dungeon.
